Ode with Anthropic: An Independent Profile of Anthropic's Enterprise AI Services Company

Ode with Anthropic is a standalone enterprise AI services company backed by Anthropic, Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman and Goldman Sachs, with additional backing from General Atlantic, Leonard Green & Partners, Apollo Global Management, GIC and Sequoia Capital 1. It was announced without a name on 05-04-2026, acquired the San Francisco firm Fractional AI on 05-21-2026, and was introduced under the Ode brand on 07-15-2026 123. It is the second of the two lab-backed DeployCos launched in 2026 and the one aimed at mid-sized companies.

Background

Anthropic's 05-04-2026 announcement framed the venture as a response to demand: CFO Krishna Rao said, "Enterprise demand for Claude is significantly outpacing any single delivery model" 1. The announcement describes Anthropic Applied AI engineers working with the new firm's engineering team to identify high-impact uses, build custom Claude-powered systems and provide long-term support. Its illustrative example is a multi-site healthcare services group automating documentation, medical coding, prior authorizations and compliance reviews 1.

Blackstone's role is described in launch coverage as the origin of the idea: the firm noticed a gap while rolling out AI across its portfolio companies with consultants and boutiques, and found Fractional AI already doing the work for Blackstone- and Hellman & Friedman-backed companies 4.

The Fractional AI acquisition

On 05-21-2026 Blackstone announced that the "AI-native enterprise services firm backed by Anthropic, Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman" had acquired Fractional AI. The release said Fractional's engineering team would work with Anthropic's Applied AI organization from day one 5. Fractional AI was founded in April 2024 by Chris Taylor, Eddie Siegel and Travis May and built custom AI systems for mid-sized and private-equity-backed companies 2. Bloomberg reported that the sale ended an 11-month partnership between Fractional and OpenAI 8. Terms were not disclosed.

The Ode launch

On 07-15-2026 Anthropic, Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman introduced the company as Ode with Anthropic, with Taylor as CEO and Siegel as CTO 34. TechCrunch reported about 100 engineers at launch, more than half of them former startup founders. A Blackstone executive described the team as "special forces" rather than a large pool of forward deployed engineers 4.

Two statements from the launch define Ode's positioning:

  • Siegel on model choice: "I think model selection matters, but it's not where the majority of calories are spent," comparing it to choosing a programming language 4.
  • Taylor on ambition: it is "pretty easy to imagine this as a trillion-dollar company someday if we execute well" 4.

Ode has not disclosed revenue, valuation, hiring targets or the price paid for Fractional AI 4.

Model policy: Claude-first, not Claude-exclusive

Unlike OpenAI's announcement for its Deployment Company, which describes building on OpenAI models, Ode's founders describe a "Claude-first" approach that uses Anthropic's models where possible and rival models where they cannot 4. Fractional AI's published case studies from before the acquisition listed OpenAI, Anthropic and Google models, which is consistent with a multi-model engineering background 9. Whether this flexibility persists at scale is one of the open questions tracked in Risks and Debates.

Customers and partnerships

Ode's customer pipeline begins with its backers' portfolio companies but is not limited to them 3. Publicly announced work as of the review date:

Figures that circulate but are not confirmed

  • The $1.5 billion total and the $300 million / $150 million breakdown come from press reporting, not from Anthropic, Blackstone or Ode 24.
  • Claims that Ode targets "banks with $10 billion to $100 billion in assets" appear in secondary commentary; Anthropic's announcement says "community banks" without a size range 1.
  • Headcount estimates above the roughly 100 reported at launch are third-party estimates.
